Also, please be aware that SmiteWorks does not have the ability to test installations and configurations of Fantasy Grounds VTT with the myriad Linux distributions available in the wild, even those based on Ubuntu repositories and codebase. FGVTT may install and run successfully, but we can only officially support Ubuntu Desktop at the moment.
Steam Deck and/or Proton are also not currently supported.
Suggestions for Improving Performance
Since Fantasy Grounds VTT doesn’t use a central cloud server, but rather connects GMs and players to each other in a peer-to-peer network, it is important to remember that not everyone’s computers in that network might be able to handle the same load as others with higher-specced machines. This reduced performance can affect everyone else in the network if, for example, bandwidth is low for a user or the computer is working harder (but slower) to complete computations and update the desktop and/or movement for everyone.
There are several basic ways to improve performance in Fantasy Grounds VTT for both you and players who may connect to games you host.
Content Limitation: Aim to use around a dozen images or less to keep your campaign manageable and system-friendly.
Map Sizing: Maps larger than 2K in dimensions (2048x2048) are often excessive for virtual tabletops; smaller maps at 50-100 ppi are sufficient and improve performance.
WebP Conversion: Reduce image file size without significant quality loss by converting to WebP format at 75% quality.
Selective Module & Extension Use: Activate only the extensions and modules you need to reduce load times and enhance gameplay for participants.
System Optimization: Ensure your network and hardware settings are conducive to online gaming to prevent connectivity issues. Additionally, you can reduce GPU usage to help improve performance.
Prompt Error Reporting: Report technical problems through the designated support channels for time assistance:
By following these streamlines guidelines, you can help ensure a smoother and more enjoyable gaming experience on Fantasy Grounds.
