Vaesen - Character Sheet

CHARACTER CREATION

Character creation is done in the traditional way – the player is writing in the character sheet the various options following the rules in Chapter 2 – Your Character following the options presented in the standard careers. Talents and Items can be dragged and dropped from the respective libraries; the remaining sections are populated manually.

The character sheet contains four tabs – MAIN, ACTIONS, INVENTORY and LOG. Detailed explanation on the functionalities available in each tab follows.

MAIN TAB

The MAIN tab is the starting point during character creation and during normal play. It contains several frames:

Main Tab
  • Character Information – Contains Name and Archetype text fields – self-explanatory. This frame exists as global one in all tabs.

  • Attributes – here players set their attributes. Each box can be edited by selecting it and entering the new value or adjust using Ctrl + mouse wheel. Double click will perform attribute roll and include relevant modifiers.

  • Skills – as the Attributes frame, but for the skills.

  • Talents – accommodates all talents entitled during character creation or earned during play. Supports drag & drop from talent library.

  • Conditions – visual markers for the four possible conditions groups in physical and mental categories. Those are linked to Combat Tracker and chat reports.

  • Magic – independent skill that character can receive in special circumstances. It must be manually updated.

  • Memento – equipment that will help to play and portray the character and support during healing process.

  • Experience Points – tracker for XP points.

ACTIONS TAB

The ACTIONS tab is used during action scenes. Automation connects with events in the Combat Tracker that allows the players to decide how to use the successes (if any) generated with Close or Ranged combat roll in addition to regular rolls using active equipment. The frames are as follows:

  • Attributes, Skills, Conditions – same as in the MAIN tab with the exception that Attributes & Skills are read-only.

  • Armor – Facilitates Protection rolls. One Protection item should be equipped at any given time. Agility penalty is automatically applied to Agility rolls.

  • Active Equipment – Items that are marked as equipped in the INVENTORY will appear here. The list is managed by the automation and it contains the ability to make skill roll modified by bonus specified in the item’s properties (how the properties are defined in the EQUIPMENT section below). The gear icon in the table shows the text in the Special field (if any) when cursor hovers over it. Clicking the Dice Roll button triggers the roll, building the dice pool based on the weapon category, its bonus and modifiers added to the Special field of the item.

  • Combat Actions – this frame is used during combat. Initiative, Parry and Dodge rolls can be executed outside of combat sequence at any given time.  Initiative roll will update the character’s initiative in the combat tracker if the actor is present there. Parry and Dodge will initiate Close Combat and Agility  skill rolls and if Combat Tracker is used the success generated will enable usage of the Reactions maneuvers. Stunt-related rolls are enabled when Close or Ranged Combat roll generates more than one success. The player can freely pick any combination as far as there are stunts to spend. The choice is written in the chat log and also tracked in the combat tracker (visible to the GM).

  • Action Tracker – check boxes for used SLOW and FAST actions during combat. Connects with the action markers in the Combat Tracker. Should be set by the players.

  • Insights & Defects – text field to record critical injuries. There are effects for each injury that comes with effect and those can be applied to PC when added to CT. This box is for offline and non-CT use.

INVENTORY TAB

The INVENTORY tab is used to manage characters inventory (gear, signature item, supplies and currencies). Another important functionality is assigning active items for use in the Active Equipment frame in the ACTIONS tab The frames and their usage is as follows:

  • Inventory – same usage as in the other rulesets, with the following: Moving the item to Equipped  state will list it in the Active Equipment frame on the ACTIONS tab. Items in Carried and Equipped state are taken into account for Items carried calculation.

  • Resources – resources are used for item acquisition.

  • Signature item – text field, single line.

  • Advantages – Special items that grant bonus to a skill roll during a mystery.

  • Total items carried – In Vaesen, encumbrance is not tracked, but the ruleset keeps the Weight property of an item (setting it to 1) and converts the Encumbrance field to reporting field for carried items. This is for convenience and reference the amount of equipment carried at any given time. Gamemaster and players can adjudicate accordingly.

LOG TAB

The log tab contains text boxes for additional information about the character such as physical description, personal notes and relationship with the other characters.
