Uninstalling Fantasy Grounds VTT

In this article, we will show step-by-step how to uninstall Fantasy Grounds VTT.

NOTE: The Fantasy Grounds VTT uninstaller will not remove your /campaigns folder or your settings file(s). This is intentional so your custom campaigns are not lost should you need to reinstall Fantasy Grounds VTT. To completely remove all traces of Fantasy Grounds VTT, including settings, license keys, campaigns, etc., please see the
Manually Uninstall Fantasy Grounds VTT article.

Uninstall Fantasy Grounds VTT in Windows 10 / 11

  1. First, launch Fantasy Grounds VTT as you normally would, then click Settings.

  2. Once in Settings, click the Uninstall button.

3. You will be prompted to confirm that you wish to uninstall FGVTT. Click Uninstall here.

4. FGUpdaterEngine will now begin uninstalling Fantasy Grounds VTT.

5. Once it has completed, click Finish.

Additional Step If Installed Via Steam

Note: You may still have the Fantasy Grounds VTT Demo installer application installed in Windows that you will need to remove as well. This may appear if you installed Fantasy Grounds VTT in Steam. Windows 11 steps shown below. Windows 10 may appear similar but different.

  1. Go into Windows Settings and find Apps category on the left sidebar. Click it, then look for Installed apps in the right-hand column.

Note: Fantasy Grounds VTT (FGVTT) used to be called Fantasy Grounds Unity and may still appear that way for some customers.

2. You can then search for Fantasy Grounds VTT. Once located, click the 3 dots menu to the right and choose Uninstall from the dropdown menu.

You may be prompted with a warning box. Click Uninstall to proceed.

3. If originally installed via Steam, you will see the following prompt from within the Steam program:

4. Click Uninstall here as well. Fantasy Grounds VTT will uninstall without conformation and will no longer be listed as Installed in your Library in Steam.

Uninstall Fantasy Grounds VTT in macOS

  1. First, launch Fantasy Grounds VTT as you normally would, then click Settings.

     

  2. Once in Settings, click the Uninstall button.

     

  3. You will be prompted to confirm that you wish to uninstall FGVTT. Click Uninstall here.

     

  4. FGUpdaterEngine will now begin uninstalling Fantasy Grounds VTT.

  5. Once it has completed, click Finish.

Uninstall Fantasy Grounds VTT in Ubuntu Linux

Since all information in the Ubuntu Linux installation is stored in a hidden directory in your /home/[username]/ directory called .smiteworks, you can simply delete that directory by dragging it to the trash and then emptying the trash.

If you are running running a version of Ubuntu with a different desktop environment, or simply wish to use the terminal, you can use the following instructions:

Launch a Terminal session and enter the following command:
cd ~/.smiteworks ; rm -r fantasygrounds fgdata ; cd .. ; rmdir .smiteworks

If you need to break the command down into its individual parts, enter each line, then hit Enter:
cd ~/.smiteworks
rm -r fantasygrounds fgdata
cd ..
rmdir .smiteworks
