Dice Packs - Frequently Asked Questions

Questions are being answered as we collect them from users.

Q: Are there any free Dice Packs?
A: Upon release of Fantasy Grounds Unity v4.3.0, which included Dice Packs, the Elemental Basics dice pack was included for all users for free after updating to the new version.

Q: Are dice purchased by the GM/DM and shared with players?
A: No. Each host or player buys their own dice. Dice bought by the DM are not shared with players. All players and the DM can have completely different dice packs.

Q: Do you need a Fantasy Grounds Unity Standard or Ultimate license or a subscription to purchase and/or use Dice Packs?
A: No. Everyone who uses Fantasy Grounds Unity can use Dice Packs, including Free/Demo users.

Q: Why don’t I see the new Dice Packs updating when I click Check For Updates? I checked for updates, and nothing happened.
A: Dice Packs are built into Fantasy Grounds Unity. When you purchase a Dice Pack, FGU checks your Fantasy Grounds account to see which packs were purchased and unlocks them for use without downloading anything new.

Q: I purchased the Dice Packs on Steam, but they aren’t showing up in Fantasy Grounds Unity. Why not?
A: Make sure you have the Steam account used to purchase the Dice Packs linked with your Fantasy Grounds account. Once linked, click Check For Updates in FGU.
You can read more about linking your account at the link below:

Q: Do Dice Packs ever expire? Will I need to buy them again in a year or at any point in the future?
A: No. Dice Packs, much like modules, tokens, etc., do not expire. Once purchased, they are associated with your account for the life of that account.

Q: If the GM/DM hides dice rolls from players, will the player see the effects of the GM’s/DM’s dice packs?
A: No. The players will see what they would usually see when dice rolls are hidden; a shadow die.

For a DM/GM to show their effects dice to players, they will need to show their rolls by going to:
Tool → Options → Chat: Show GM rolls and set it to On.

Q: Can every player in a game see every other players' dice effects, even if they are all different?
A: Yes. Each player’s dice effects are replicated to all clients connected to the game session.

Q: Can a GM/DM override a user’s choice of dice and force players to use a specific Dice Pack?
A: No. Each player will use whichever Dice Pack they prefer or no special Dice Pack at all, if they prefer.

Q: Can you combine effects? i.e. add the Trails to the Force Field dice?
A: No. Not at present. Effects Dice are still in their infancy, so additional features such as this may be considered for future updates.

Q: Is there a way to change the size of the dice?
A: Yes. You can use the built-in Dice Scaling feature. If you need your dice or UI scaled larger or small than the Dice Scaling allows, you can also use the UI Scale feature.
You can read more about that here: How to Make The User Interface Larger or Smaller

Q: Can I buy Dice Packs and gift them to another user?
A: Yes. All Fantasy Grounds products, including Dice Packs, are able to be gifted to another FGU user. You can learn more about gifting items in the following article:
Link: Account F.A.Q. | Can I gift someone an item from my account to theirs?

NOTE: If you intend to gift one or more Dice Packs to each of your players, you may want to make individual orders for each player rather than one order for everyone. When gifting to another FGU user, it is done by Order #, not by product name, and orders cannot be split up.

Q: Can specific dice effects be associated with a specific in-game effect, such as Aura Cast - Fire with a fireball spell?
A: Yes. Please see the Custom Dice Rolls section above.
