Mac: Connectivity Is Intermittent in Sequoia 15.x
Problem
Fantasy Grounds VTT connectivity to Cloud server and/or players may be intermittent on a Mac running Sequoia 15.x.
Cause
Apple recently introduced a new Local Networking setting that has been found to sometimes not allow traffic through, even when permission was previously granted, and the option to Allow has been toggled on.
Potential Solutions
Accept The Local Networking Prompt
First, make sure you have installed all of the latest System Updates to ensure all updates, security patches, and bug fixes have been installed and you are on the most current version of macOS.
Then, when loading a campaign, creating a campaign, or joining a host’s campaign, make sure at some point you have accepted the prompt to allow “FGUpdaterEngine”, “FantasyGrounds” and/or “FantasyGroundsUpdater” permission to find devices on local networks.
NOTE: There have been reports that there is a bug in macOS Sequoia 15.x that may not now local network permission even though the prompt was approved. This is most often noticed after a system reboot. See the instructions below to potentially circumvent the issue.
Toggle Local Network Permissions
Go to System Settings → Privacy & Security → Local Network
Once there, you should see any and all Fantasy Grounds-related apps that have been previously approved with the prompt shown in the first screenshot above.
Click the toggle to Off, then back to On. This should refresh permissions to allow local networking permission.
