v4.8.0 Feature Showcase

v4.8.0 Feature Showcase

Fantasy Grounds VTT v4.8.0 has now been released on the LIVE channel and is no longer in beta.

Apple Silicon Native Support

Fantasy Grounds VTT has added native support for Apple Silicon as well as older Intel variants.

Going forward, this will allow Fantasy Grounds VTT to take advantage of the Apple Silicon architecture and reap the benefits of the on-board graphical capabilities.

New Dice Window

The new Dice Window adds a lot of great new functionality as well as features that have been high on the user request list for quite some time.

Active Dice Set

image-20250714-202906.png

The new Dice Window eliminates the endless loading and scrolling of all the dice packs. Now, your Active Dice Set is shown at the top-left of the window. Along with a thumbnail, it will display the name of the Dice Pack, the name of that particular die set, and whether it has effects (Fx) or not.

Randomize Dice Skin

The circular arrows button in the upper-right of the Active Dice Set section will randomly choose a new dice skin from Dice Packs or Dice Sets that you currently own.

Randomize Dice Color

The circular arrows button in the upper-right of the Color section will randomly assign new Body and Text colors to the dice set.

NOTE: If a dice skin is not colorable, no options will appear in the Color section of the window. Dice that are colorable will be denoted with a “palette” icon in the upper-right corner of the dice thumbnail.

Hover Dice Preview

We’ve also added a nice little quality of life improvement to the Dice Window with the ability to preview a dice set and its effects without having to select the dice skin. This allows you peruse other dice packs without clicking them, eliminating the need to then go and find your previous dice set. Now, you can simply see what other dice look like without changing your current ones!

Dice Roll Size

Users have long been able to change the size of the dice as they are displayed in the Dice Tray to slightly smaller (80%) to slightly larger (120%) compared to default.

Now, we have also included the ability to adjust the size of the dice when they are picked up and rolled. The default is 200% of the default dice size, but can be as large as 240%, or as small as 80%.

Cranking the dice Roll size to 240% really allows you to see their skin and effects in all their glory!

Dice Skin Selection

The Dice Window has become more functional while streamlining the dice selection process. Gone is a massive window of Dice Pack thumbnails forcing you to resize the window and scroll (and scroll, and scroll…) until you find the Pack you’re looking for. Replacing that section is the new Group dropdown and navigation arrows.

You can use the dropdown menu to go directly to the Dice Pack you’re interested in, or use the Group arrow keys to cycle through them one by one in the order they are listed in the dropdown.

NOTE: Selecting the (ALL) option from the dropdown menu will load all of the dice skins into one preview window. This can be handy when used with the new Hover Dice Preview to compare dice skins and/or effects with dice in other Packs.

The Dice Tray Unlock (previously known as Toggle Panel Lock), NPC Dice and Damage Dice buttons are the same functionality as in previous versions.

Throw Dice Anywhere!

You can now roll dice anywhere in Fantasy Grounds VTT and it will track in the chat window!

Previously, rolls would need to be done in the chat window to register, but now, you can grab and fling dice anywhere and the roll will be recorded. No more trying to get a good roll within the confines of a narrow chat frame.

NOTE: If you lift dice and decide you do not want to roll them and/or do not want the chat window to update, simply drop the dice onto the desktop without flinging them. That is, drop the dice without moving the mouse and they will drop and disappear without completing a roll.

Reference Manual Auto-Scroll

Another quality-of-life improvement to the Reference Manual (Books) is the ability to scroll naturally to continue reading past the section you started in. In the example below, you can see how we start reading in “Playing the Game” and, scrolling as we read, progress all the way down to the “The Six Abilities” section.

All of the same functionality exists as in previous versions, such as clicking images to open the Preview window, dragging Links, formatting text, etc. You can also still link directly to a specific section without needing to scroll through entire chapters or sub-chapters.

The auto-scroll feature does not automatically progress into the next sub-chapter or chapter. Instead, this is where Previous Section and Next Section buttons come in.

Clicking on Previous Section or Next Section will jump to the top entry in that section.

Plenty more to come as we continue to make visual and polish improvements to Fantasy Grounds VTT. If you find any issues in TEST, be sure to report it so we can get all these things ready for release.
