Online Reader Announcement-20251113-232201.jpg

Beta Software Acknowledgement

NOTE: My Library Online Reader is a BETA RELEASE
Not all features are available yet, and you may experience bugs, formatting issues, or missing content. Reporting them in the #online_reader_beta_support channel on our Discord server or in the Forums is greatly appreciated so that they can be investigated and addressed.

What It Is and What It Does

My Library Online Reader is a web-based compendium tool that gives users access to their entire Fantasy Grounds library from any browser, on any device, without needing to launch the Fantasy Grounds app. This new reader brings a whole new level of accessibility to users, allowing them to browse books, adventures, and rulesets on the go.

Even if you haven’t purchased any content yet, several free modules – such as the D & D Basic Rules and System Reference Document (SRD) – are available to explore immediately.

It already supports hundreds of titles from popular publishers and systems, and SmiteWorks is actively working to expand that coverage throughout the beta period.

“After seeing the impact that digital readers have had on the hobby, I’m thrilled that Fantasy Grounds fans will now be able read their content whenever that random rules question comes to mind or wherever inspiration strikes to confirm what the book says,” said Adam Bradford, CDO at SmiteWorks. “Combining the flexibility of the online reader with the offline access that already exists in the Fantasy Grounds app is a powerful combination.”

With almost 4,000 properties available on Fantasy Ground VTT, ensuring that all items are available, look good, and are in a good navigable state, is an ongoing process. Not all items currently available for purchase in our Store will be available to read in My Library Online Reader immediately, but more are being added all the time.

How Do I Find It?

image-20251113-225859.png
The My Library Online Reader link will be the first one you see in the navigation bar.

You can find My Library as the first link in the navigation bar at the top of the fantasygrounds.com main page. You can also get there directly via the following link:
Link: https://www.fantasygrounds.com/library/

Be sure to bookmark this link to be able to go directly to the reader or share it with others.

Do I Need To Log In?

Yes, you will need to log into the Fantasy Grounds website so the site can gather and display the modules in your library to be used in the Online Reader.

If you do not log into your Fantasy Grounds account, or do not have one, you will only see free items available to everyone, like rules, system reference documents (SRDs), etc.

Finding What Your Looking For

There are a couple different ways to narrow down the contents of My Library. The first is the Game Systems dropdown menu. The second is the Search By Title search box.

Game Systems

The Games System dropdown menu allows you to filter your library content by the game system. In the example below, we’re selecting only Pathfinder 2 modules to show.

To reset the dropdown and show all items, select All Game Systems at the top of the dropdown menu.

Search By Title

If you know some of the keywords in the title of a module, you can search by any of the words in the title. In the example below, we searched for “monster”, which returned everything with that word in the title, no matter what game system it belongs to.

To reset the page to show all titles, simply delete everything out of the search box, then press Enter or click the search icon to the right of the field.

My Library Book Navigation

image-20251113-232901.png
The Tales of the Valiant Player’s Guide used to show what a book’s library page will look like.

Once you selected a module to open in the Online Reader, you will be greeted with a similar page as the one shown above. Basic elements of every book will be the same or very similar.

  1. Cover Art - Here you will see the cover art for the module. It will match the cover art shown in the module’s Store page.

  2. Module Title - Here you will see the title of the module you are reading.

  3. Module Description - Here you will find descriptive text illustrating what to expect in this module, some bullet points with things you can do or how many items may be inside.

  4. Read More - To keep things tidy, we’ve tucked long module descriptions away under the Read More tag. Clicking this will expand the page downwards and allow you to see the full descriptive text of the module. Clicking it again will collapse the area to its original state.

  5. Table Of Contents - The Table Of Contents should mirror what you might find by opening the module within Fantasy Grounds, or flipping through a printed book.

  6. Clickable Section Links - Each listing in the Table Of Contents will take you directly to the beginning of that part of the module.

Returning To The Table Of Contents

Once inside a book, The Table of Contents link will always remain centered at the top so that you can easily return to Table of Contents and select another section to read.

My Library Navigation Sidebar

image-20251113-235539.png

To the left of the book’s main reading panel, the Navigation Sidebar can be used to navigate to a book’s chapter, subsections, and entries therein. This allows the reader to easily find section they are looking for without having to scroll through a seemingly-endless menu.

Clicking on a Chapter heading will take you to the beginning of that chapter, showing all of the subsections in that chapter. The sidebar will also collapse the contents of all other sections to keep navigation easier to follow and less cluttered.

NOTE: Since different modules are created by different publishers and developers, some navigation styles and chapter structure may differ from property to property.

For example, all of the Chapters are listed together in the navigation sidebar in the Tales of the Valiant: Player’s Guide image shown above. Other properties, like the Dungeons & Dragons Player's Handbook - 50th Anniversary Edition shown below have each individual chapter section isolated.

image-20251114-194622.png
Here we see Chapter 4: Character Origins open, while Chapter 3: Character Classes and Chapter 5: Feats, are navigable from the top menu, along with the Table of Contents link.

Navigation Sidebar Sizes

NOTE: The sidebar menu may look different or be collapsed entirely depending on the size of the screen or browser window it is in.

My Library is meant to be used on everything from desktop browser windows on large monitors to laptop screens to tablets to phones. For this reason, the navigation sidebar menu may be collapsed to save readable space, but you can always click on the hamburger menu ( ) at the bottom-left of the screen.

Back To The Top of the Page

No matter how far down you’ve scrolled through the contents of a book, you can quickly and easily go back to the very beginning of the book by clicking on the To The Top icon ( ) in the bottom-right corner of the page.

My Library vs. My Order History

As not all books are available in the My Library Online Reader yet, not all modules you own will be reflected in the My Library list. If you do not see a module in the My Library list, it does not mean that you no longer own that module or it is missing from your purchase history, unless it was gifted to someone or refunded.

You can always see your purchase history by logging into fantasygrounds.com and navigating to Store → Order History.

Just like the My Library Online Reader itself, this F.A.Q. is a work-in-progress and will be expanded in the very near future. Be sure to check back here often to see what new features have been added to the My Library Online Reader. Happy reading!
