Purchasing
What are my payment options?
We use Paypal as our merchant account. Per Paypal’s website: “PayPal allows you to make payments using a variety of methods including: PayPal balance, a bank account, PayPal Credit, debit or credit cards, and rewards balance.”. Other Paypal payment options may be available at checkout. Venmo is also an option for those who prefer a more mobile-centric option.
Do you offer payment options other than Paypal?
No, not at the moment. We are reviewing other payment options for the future, but Paypal is our sole payment service at the moment.
Do I have to create a Paypal account in order to make a purchase?
No. You can simply use a credit or debit card without creating a Paypal account. When proceeding from your shopping cart to Paypal, if you do not already have a Paypal account, click the following option on the first screen:
Fill in the necessary credit/debit card information and billing address info to complete the purchase process.
Do you offer a credit or pay-over-time service?
Paypal offers a service they call Pay Later which offers two options:
Pay in 4 | Pay Monthly |
---|---|
Split purchases between $30-$1500 into 4 interest-free, bi-weekly payments. No late fees. | Enjoy the flexibility of 6,12, or 24-month payment plans, $0 down, and no sign-up or late fees. |
|
|
Pay in 4 is not available in some states, regions, territories, and other restrictions may apply. Read more at the Pay in 4 and Pay Monthly page at PayPal for more information.

I get a Paypal error when trying to check out. What happened?
If you received an error stating “Things don’t appear to be working at the moment. Please try again later.”, this most often occurs when trying to “purchase” a free item. Paypal cannot make a charge of $0.00. This can be rectified by combining a non-free item with the purchase, or with a $1.00 donation at checkout.
Billing and Refunds
I need to change my credit card information. Can you do that for me?
No. All credit/debit card information (card numbers, expiration dates, etc.), banking information, and all things financial are handled exclusively through Paypal directly. While we can do things like cancel subscriptions and issue refunds on purchases, we do not have direct access to any financial information and cannot make changes of that nature for you.
What is your refund policy?
We offer a 30-day refund policy on everything purchased from our website Store. See notes about refunds through Steam below.
To begin a refund request for items purchased from our website, please submit a Support ticket.
Is the refund policy the same on Steam as it is on the Store on the Fantasy Grounds website?
No. While we offer a 30-day refund policy on items purchases on our Store, Steam has it’s own refund policy. Per their website, “The Steam refund offer, within two weeks of purchase and with less than two hours of playtime, applies to games and software applications on the Steam store.”

Can Smiteworks / Fantasy Grounds issue refunds for purchases made on Steam?
Unfortunately, we don't have any ability to issue refunds on Steam. All requests for refunds will need to be sent through the process described below. The automated response will grant a refund if it meets all the criteria. You may need to escalate this with Steam if that is denied for any reason and explain the reasoning in more detail.

If I pay with Venmo and want a refund, can you refund Venmo payments?
Yes. As Venmo is owned by Paypal, the refund process is the same as any other payment method used at http://Paypal.com . Funds will be refunded either back to the Venmo account from which they came, or will be refunded to the method of funding used at checkout (credit card, bank account, etc.).
Instead of a monetary refund, can I just get Store credit?
We do not have a “store credit” system, but we are happy to facilitate all eligible refunds and allow you to purchase something else if you like.
Why am I still being charged for a subscription after purchasing a one-time license?
Subscriptions are purchases made independent of one-time licenses and will be charged monthly until manually cancelled. For more information, please see our License Keys F.A.Q. section.
If you have no free items or other non-free items in your cart and still receive the Paypal error, please submit a support ticket.
Bundles, Discounts, and Sales
What are Bundles?
Bundles are groupings of modules, adventures, map packs, dice packs, etc. that offer a 15% discount off the listed sale price for all items within the bundle when purchased together.
Note: Occasionally, there are some bundles that do not offer discounts, such as the Dungeons & Dragons 2024 Core Rulebook Pre-Order Bundle. This bundle is simply placing all items of this type into one area for easy pre-order.
If I already own some Bundle items, can I get the rest at a discount?
Yes. If you own, say, 3 out of 6 items in a bundle, you will receive the 15% discount on the remaining 3 items by using the Complete This Bundle Now button.
If new items are added to a bundle in the future, will I get the discount on that item?
Yes. If you return to the bundle and click the Complete This Bundle Now button, it will add the new items to your cart with the discount applied.
If an item in a bundle is part of another sale, will it also have the 15% Bundle bonus applied?
Yes. You get both the sale price and the bonus price. Here’s how it works:
The bundle price is applied to the base non-sale price of the item, then the sale price is applied to that amount.
For example, if a module was $100 and there was a 15% bundle discount and a 30% sale on the item, it would be $85 after the bundle discount was applied (15% off), and then $25.50 off from the 30% sale (70% of $85), which would be $59.50.
I bought some items on Steam. Do they count toward Bundles from the Fantasy Grounds website Store?
They do not count automatically, but those purchases can be “converted” into Store purchases so they appear to our shopping cart system as if you purchased them directly from out website.
First, make sure you have already linked your Steam and Fantasy Grounds accounts. You can learn more about that process in the article below:
Link: Linking with External Services and Applications | Sync Your Fantasy Grounds Account To Steam
Next, you’ll need to contact FG Customer Support and request that your Steam purchases be converted to Store purchases so they can be counted toward bundles. You can click the link below to submit a ticket:

Note: Your Steam purchases will remain in your Steam account. “Converting” purchases from Steam to Store purchases simply created a “dummy entry” on your FG account to make it appear as if they were purchased there. You will not have actual duplicate items in your Order History. They are only empty order records with item names.
This is a manual process done by Customer Support and will not happen automatically with new Steam purchases going forward.
Paizo PDF Discount
If I own the PDF of a Fantasy Grounds module at Paizo.com, do I get 100% of the PDF price off the FG module?
Maybe. Paizo has recently changed their pricing and discount structure which may affect how much discount can be deducted from the price of the corresponding Fantasy Grounds module in our Store. The discount of the entire price of the Paizo PDF is no longer the case by default.
Per Paizo product pages:
Please note that you can get up to the entire cost of the PDF purchased from http://paizo.com off this order as a discount.
If you purchase the PDF from Paizo.com first, then link your Paizo and Fantasy Grounds accounts and shop for the module at the Fantasy Grounds Store, you will be eligible for a discount on the price of the Fantasy Grounds module, but the discount may not be 100% of the price paid for the PDF.
Note: This may not to apply to things like Special Editions, Anniversary Editions, single “compendium”-style collections of multiple adventures in one PDF, bundles they created on their site, etc. You would have to check with Paizo directly for specific details concerning discounts on such items.
If you link your Paizo account with your Fantasy Grounds account, then purchase the Pathfinder or Starfinder module from Fantasy Grounds first, you will then be eligible to have the corresponding PDF added to your Paizo account at http://paizo.com. You can contact Paizo Customer Support to have them added there.

Link: Linking with External Services and Applications | Sync Your Fantasy Grounds Account To Paizo
If I own the PDF of a Paizo item that is on sale and/or in a Bundle at Fantasy Grounds, do I get both the Paizo PDF discount and the Bundle/Sale discount?
Yes. You will receive either the PDF discount from Paizo, or the Bundle discount, which ever is greater, but not both. Once that discount is applied, you will also receive the sale price discount. It is similar in structure to the bundle/sale item explanation above.
