Community rulesets are user-created implementations of role-playing game systems within the Fantasy Grounds virtual tabletop environment. All maintenance and development of community rulesets is done by community members, and organized on the forums.
Community Rulesets Forum: Click Here

Community rulesets are not officially supported or endorsed by SmiteWorks. Please be aware that community rulesets can be abandoned by their authors or maintainers at any time, or may be removed from the forums entirely without notice. The list below may become outdated over time.

Installing a Community Ruleset

Community rulesets can be downloaded from the links below. They will not update automatically when new functionality is added and they may break when new versions of the Fantasy Grounds software is installed. If you experience any issues after running an update, please re-download and install the latest version and visit the forum link for the appropriate ruleset and check there for new versions.

Installing a ruleset PAK file

  1. Launch Fantasy Grounds and click on the folder icon to open your data folder

  2. Navigate to the rulesets folder

  3. Paste the PAK file there

  4. Close and re-open Fantasy Grounds and Create a New Campaign.

  5. Look for the ruleset in the list of available rulesets

Important Note for Windows Users
Windows will automatically block most files downloaded from the website. After saving the file to your local hard drive, right-click on it and choose Properties. Look for an option to Unblock the download.

Installing an extension EXT file

  1. Launch Fantasy Grounds and click on the folder icon to open your data folder

  2. Navigate to the extensions folder

  3. Paste the EXT file there

  4. Close and re-open Fantasy Grounds and Create a New Campaign.

  5. Look for the ruleset that works with your new extension. Select that ruleset.

  6. The new extension should show up in the list of available extensions

Babylon 5

Featuring the space station that changed the destiny of an entire galaxy, the Babylon 5 RPG from Mongoose Publishing allows players to take on the role of characters from the award-winning TV series, or create their own characters for new adventures in the Babylon 5 universe.

The ruleset looks a little dated now, based on the original d20 ruleset. However, it still works and is a full ruleset with character sheet, NPC sheet and combat tracker functionality.

Cairn

A long time ago, humans walked the face of the world, but were destroyed for their arrogance and hubris. The Bright Ones lifted up the simple animals of forest and field, giving them the ability to think, build, and stand on their own two feet. In order to keep the newly Favored animals from making the same mistakes the humans did, The Bright Ones gave them the Compact — a book telling them how to live together in harmony.

Those who engage in dark deeds or refuse the ways of Harmony eventually become Dire — sinister, twisted versions of themselves, acting out of greed, vengeance, or selfishness. You must protect the town of Cairn and help it survive the winter. But beware! For you can become Dire, too.

Can you stop the Witch before she curses all the berries of the forest? Will you find the source of corruption withering Farmer Cottonstar’s fields? What of the growing threat of otters and moles working outside the town? Using a system of adventure seeds and story paths, you become the heroes of Cairn. The town survives or thrives based on your actions. And with 20 species and 20 professions, you can play almost any critter you can think of.

The Cairn RPG is a fantasy role-playing game where even the smallest creatures can have the biggest adventures.

Conspiracy X

Conspiracy X takes place in a world of dark secrets and hidden agendas where the only certainty is nothing is what it seems. The president might not be human... and the sign carrying paranoid on the street corner ranting about CIA mind control satellites may very well be right.

The ruleset looks a little dated, but has full functionality to run a game. Character sheet, NPC sheet and combat tracker are customised for the setting.

Maelstrom RPG / Maelstrom Domesday

Author: damned
Game Publisher: Arion Games

The Maelstrom RPG and Maelstrom Domesday Fantasy Grounds Ruleset is now available for download. This is a community ruleset and is totally free to use. My thanks go to Ian M Ward and Trenloe for their great help and patience in helping me with my coding challenges and to Graham Bottley of Arion Games for supplying some of the Artwork and Ruleset Direction.

Maelstrom RPG was first released back in 1984 in a paperback novel sized book. It has since been released in PDF by Arion Games and is available from RPG Now (https://www.rpgnow.com/product/54233/Maelstrom). Graham also produced the Maelstrom Companion and in 2013 ran a very successful Kickstarter to produce Maelstrom Domesday.

The original Maelstrom is set in the 16-17th Century in an historically accurate England – well historically accurate except there are no Firearms and there is a very subtle form of Magick available to some. The newer Maelstrom Domeday is set in England in the year 1086 and has characters investigation strange and unusual (supernatural?) events for their Norman lords.

This Ruleset does not have the automation that can be found in the core rulesets like Pathfinder and Dungeons and Dragons however it does facilitate all common rolls.

The Character Sheet has 5 Tabs.

The Main Tab has the following features: Ability Scores and Temp Ability Score. The Temp Ability Score is the actual current ability score and is used for most rolls. To perform a skill/ability check you are aiming to Roll Under your current score. once you have successfully used an Ability you mar it as Used. At the next break in action you may attempt to improve your skill in this area!

Specific Abilities and Livings are recorded on the Abilities Tab.

The Combat Tab has Weapon Attack and Defense Stats, Damage Dice and Range information. It also includes fields for rolling Initiative, tracking Armour Bonuses and Penalties and each Wound is tracked separately – and heals separately. Armour Penalties are applied automatically. After a successful attack roll the defender still has an opportunity to use his defense skill to block or avoid the attack.

There are differences between Maelstrom RPG and Maelstrom Domesday however the same character sheet may be used for both.

The NPC Sheet has 2 Tabs. The Abilities are all rollable from the NPC SHeet. Wounds can be modified from the Combat Tracker or from the NPC Sheet. Weapons should use the following syntax: Weapon Name [Attack Skill][Weapon Skill] (Damage Dice).

The Combat Tracker displays essential information such as Armour Rating, Wounds, Endurance , Initiative, Targetting info and NPC Attack Strings. Initiative is auto calculated at the end of each round. There is no automatic combat resolution or damage application.

You will need a copy of either Maelstrom RPG or Maelstrom Domesday to be able to run this game. They can both be purchased electronically from RPGnow.com

The Maelstrom Domesday Quick Start Guide is a good start and is free: https://www.rpgnow.com/product/134783/Maelstrom-Domesday-Quickstart

MoreCore (Generic Tabletop)

This generic multi purpose ruleset was developed to extend the capabilities of CoreRPG and enable you to play many more game systems than there are official rulesets for.

MoreCore includes a much more advanced character sheet which allows you to create and use Rolls. There is now support for dozens of different dice rolls and game systems built into MoreCore and more are being added.

Additional Combat Tracker options have been added including Wounds tracking and fields linked to the character sheet and additional columns that can be shown or hidden for the players.

MoreCore is easily customised to your favourite game system by way of an extension and several extensions have been compiled to give you plenty of examples.

Please help grow MoreCore by developing new Dice Roll Scripts and new Theme/System Extensions.

Night's Black Agents

The Cold War is over. Bush’s War is winding down.

You were a shadowy soldier in those fights, trained to move through the secret world: deniable and deadly.

Then you got out, or you got shut out, or you got burned out. You didn't come in from the cold. Instead, you found your own entrances into Europe's clandestine networks of power and crime. You did a few ops, and you asked even fewer questions. Who gave you that job in Prague? Who paid for your silence in that Swiss account? You told yourself it didn't matter.

It turned out to matter a lot. Because it turned out you were working for vampires.

The One Ring

Smaug has been defeated, the Battle of Five Armies has been won, and Bilbo has returned to the Shire. But much danger still remains, and from the Orc-holds of the mountains to the dark and corrupt depths of Mirkwood a darkness waits, recovering its strength, laying its plans, and slowly extending its shadow…

The ruleset has fully customised Character Sheet, NPC Sheet and Combat Tracker, and is based on the Foundations Core ruleset.
