How to Join a Game

Note for Fantasy Grounds Classic Users
These instructions are for Fantasy Grounds Unity. For the current version of Fantasy Grounds (Classic), please refer to the older wiki:
https://www.fantasygrounds.com/wiki/index.php/How_To_Join_A_Game

How you join a game depends upon how your GM chose to set up the game. Please pick the method below which corresponds to this choice.

Game Password
If your GM assigned a password to the campaign, then you will need to enter this when prompted. Please note that this is not the same as the password you use to log onto the forums or our storefront. That password should never be shared.

Cloud Game key:

Game is online and available.

The version of Fantasy Grounds Unity is not compatible with the host’s version.

Game is offline. This will only show in History.

The hosted game is password protected.

Public Cloud Game

  1. Launch Fantasy Grounds and click on Join Campaign

  2. First, find the GM Name and Campaign Name in the list and click on that (#1) or, if you do not immediately see the name, scroll through the pages via the arrows at the bottom, or type all or part of the GM Name into the Search box (#2). Then click on Start (#3).

  3. Your Fantasy Grounds system will download all necessary files for you to play in the game. You don’t need to own the ruleset, adventure module, or anything further.

  1. Launch Fantasy Grounds and click Join Game. Rather than scroll through pages of alphabetized hosted game names, you can filter your search by entering the some letters associated with the GM name, or simply type in the entire GM name to filter out all other games.

Private Cloud Game

  1. Launch Fantasy Grounds and click Join Game

  2. The GM Name will not appear in the Public list of games available to connect to. Enter the GM Name (the GM’s username on the Fantasy Grounds forums) manually in the Join By GM Name field and click Start.

Joining A Game via History

If you have successfully joined a game in the past, it will be listed in the History section at the top of the Join Campaign window. As in the Join Cloud Game section, a red or green dot will denote whether that game is currently online and available to connect to or not.

Local Private Game (LAN Game)

Enter the IP address that your GM provides to you. In addition, they should provide you with their External IP address and the port number. The port number defaults to 1802.

Local Private games operate much like they did in Fantasy Grounds Classic. Your GM will need to port forward TCP and UDP port 1802 from their router to their PC. Players should not need to do any configuration of their router or Internet service other than allowing Fantasy Grounds through their local firewall when prompted.
