Installing on Mac OSX
NOTE: Fantasy Grounds VTT (FGVTT) used to be called Fantasy Grounds Unity (FGU). Some screenshots were made prior to this renaming and may reflect the old FGU name. Please bear with us while we update the wiki to match current naming conventions and visual aesthetic changes.
System Requirements
Please check the System Requirements if you are uncertain whether you can run Fantasy Grounds VTT.

Install the Software
Run the FGUWebInstall.pkg package file you downloaded.
The Web Install package will load and select basic install parameters. Click Continue.
If you have multiple user accounts in macOS, you can select other options, but if you only have one account, it should default to Install for all users of this computer. Click Continue.
Click Install to continue.
NOTE: It is recommended to allow the Installer to install Fantasy Grounds VTT in the default location. Changing the Install Location could potentially cause permissions issues and the inability for Fantasy Grounds VTT to write necessary files and configurations.
The installer may ask for permissions to complete the installation. Enter your password, and username if it isn’t already entered, and click Install Software.
Take a moment to read the Next Steps and click Close when ready.
NOTE: There is currently an issue with macOS Big Sur 11.0.x that may affect our installer.
If you are installing in macOS Big Sur, and encounter the issue where FGU can’t find FGUpdaterEgine or start the Updater, please follow the temporary workaround listed here, then continue on from Step 6 below:
open Finder or Spotlight or Terminal and navigate to :
/Applications/SmiteWorks/Fantasy Grounds/FGUpdaterEnginelaunch the
FGUpdaterEngine.appfound in that folderthe .app will run through an update and close
you can now navigate to :
/Applications/SmiteWorks/Fantasy Grounds/and launchFantasyGroundsUpdater.appcontinue installation from Step 7 below
The Fantasy Grounds VTT setup should run automatically (except on Big Sur).
Choose a path where your data files will be stored. This will require the most storage space for modules, maps, extensions, etc., so make sure this location will have ample space.
We recommend keeping the default setting as this help ensure that system permissions will allow Fantasy Grounds VTT to read and write necessary files in this location after installation.
Click the Check Directory button to make sure the installer has the proper permissions to create the directory.If there are no additional permissions needed, the Check Directory button will change to Continue. Click the Continue button to proceed.
Type in your username and password, then click the Log In button. Once your login credentials are validated, you will see a “Login Successful!” message. Click Continue to go to the License Key screen.
If you don’t yet have an account, you can click the Click Here To Create One Now link above the username box to create an account. Your Fantasy Grounds forum account is what you use to log in.
NOTE: Fantasy Grounds account usernames are case-sensitive. Be sure to enter your username into Fantasy Grounds exactly as it appears in the forums.
ie. DragonSlayer is not the same as dragonslayer.
Once these steps are completed, click Update to run the latest update. The Updater will install the latest version of Fantasy Grounds VTT, including modules and any purchased products you have linked to your FG account from Steam or from the Fantasy Grounds VTT website.
NOTE: Once Fantasy Grounds VTT has updated the FGUpdaterEngine program, it will restart and may look different. This is because FGVTT has updated it’s core theme since the original launcher was uploaded. This is normal.
Once the updater has completed it’s process, click Launch Fantasy Grounds and accept the End-User License Agreement to proceed.
