Installing on Mac OSX

Download the installer package here:

https://www.fantasygrounds.com/filelibrary/FGUWebInstall.pkg

Install the Software

  1. Run FGUWebInstall.pkg

  2. The Web Install package will load and select basic install parameters. Click Continue

  3. Click Install to continue

  4. The installer may ask for permissions to complete the installation

  5. Take a moment to read the Next Steps and click Close when ready.

NOTE: There is currently an issue with macOS Big Sur 11.0.x that may affect our installer.
If you are installing in macOS Big Sur, and encounter the issue where FGU can’t find FGUpdaterEgine or start the Updater, please follow the temporary workaround listed here, then continue on from Step 6 below:
    - open Finder or Spotlight or Terminal and navigate to : /Applications/SmiteWorks/Fantasy Grounds/FGUpdaterEngine
    - launch the FGUpdaterEngine.app found in that folder
    - the .app will run through an update and close
    - you can now navigate to : /Applications/SmiteWorks/Fantasy Grounds/ and launch FantasyGroundsUpdater.app
    - continue installation from Step 6 below

  6. The Fantasy Grounds setup will run automatically (except on Big Sur).

  7. Choose a path where your data files will be stored. This will require the most storage space for modules, maps, extensions, etc. so make sure this location will have ample space.

Click the “Check Directory” button to make sure the installer has the proper permissions to create the directory.

  8. Type in your username and password, then click the Log In button. Once your login credentials are validated, you will see a “Login Successful” message. Click Continue to go to the License Key screen.

Note: If you don’t yet have an account, you can click the Click Here To Create One Now link above the username box to create an account. Your Fantasy Grounds forum account is what you use to log in.

NOTE: Fantasy Grounds account usernames are case-sensitive. Be sure to enter your username into Fantasy Grounds exactly as it appears in the forums.
ie. DragonSlayer is not the same as dragonslayer.

  9. If you have a license key, enter or paste it into the box and click Continue.
If you do not have a license key and wish to Demo the software, just click Continue

  10. Once these steps are completed, click Update to run the latest update. The Updater will install the latest version of Fantasy Grounds, including modules and any purchased products you have from Steam or from the Fantasy Grounds website.

  11. Once the updater has completed it’s process, click Launch Fantasy Grounds and accept the End-User License Agreement to proceed.

Choosing a Location for your Data Directory

Fantasy Grounds Classic (FGC) users will want to pick a different path for Fantasy Grounds Unity (FGU). While FGU will be able to read and use FGC files, this does not work the other direction. Changes made in FGU may break these files for FGC. For this reason, we highly recommend keeping two separate paths and storing these separately from each other.
