Creating Maps with Tiles

Fantasy Grounds Unity comes preinstalled with a number of tile packs and images you can use to build maps. You can find these in the Assets window under Saz Asset Pack, Shockbolt GMW Kit 1 and Torstans Asset Pack.

Note that these may show up on Page 2 or more of your Assets Window for Images.

Walk-through

It is recommended to start with Shockbolt GMW Kit 1 as it contains backgrounds, tiles, effect brushes and other features you may find useful.

Drag a background image over to a new Image

  1. Open your Images window, and change your Group to New (or another group of your choice)

  2. Open your Assets window and switch to Images mode

  3. Locate a background you like and drag it to your Images & Window group The result should look like this:

Place some Stone tiles

  1. Click on the Shockbolt GMW Kit 1 breadcrumb navigation in the Assets window to return to that folder

  2. Navigate into Tiles and then Stone (it may take a moment to load)

  3. Switch your image toolbar into Layers - Stamp mode

  4. Drag a tile into the Graphic Asset window and preset the default size in grids (suggested as 2.0 x 2.0

  5.

  6. Click anywhere on the background Cave-Floor to place a stone corridor tile

  7. Immediately after it is placed, it will remain selected. From here you can

    1. use the mouse to drag it around with the mouse, resize it using the drag handles or rotate it using the rotation handle.

    2. use the keyboard arrows to move it by grid squares, shift+left arrow to rotate left, shift+right arrow to rotate right, shift+up to scale up and shift+down to scale down

  8. Now that you have defined the default scale of your tiles, any new tile you drag onto the map will adopt the same settings. Drag directly to the map to build additional parts of your map.

  9. New tiles can be preset with Line of Sight. Turning that on after adding several tiles reveals how the LOS behavior will act
